Dream come true!
On this auspicious day, today we got a chance to visit Mahatma Jyotiba Ji WADA.
From childhood, I have been inspired by Mahatma Jyotiba and Savitribai's works and his life.
Hidden amongst multi-story establishments, Phule Wada is the residence of visionary reformer Mahatma Phule. The Wada is located in the Ganj Peth area, a few kilometers away from Pune station. Phule Wada was once the home of visionary reformers Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule who devoted their life eradicating the evils of the society.
It was built in 1852, the place has yet not lost its charm and has now been converted into a museum with photographs of Mahatma Phule and Savitribai. This museum narrates the life, contributions and legendary journey of the reformers. Mahatma Phule worked for the welfare of oppressed classes of society.
His most noteworthy contributions were his efforts for the education and empowerment of women. The Wada has now been converted into a museum where visitors can know about the life of the reformer. On entering the Wada, one can spot a well that is historically important. It is not just any other well. In fact, this is the well Mahatma Phule had opened for the untouchable downtrodden classes of society who were not permitted to use public wells. Visitors, generally, bow down before the half statue of Jyotirao in the courtyard.
There is ample open space around. This is the place where Phule ji addressed small meetings of the Satyashodhak Samaj. The construction of the Wada is quite simple. It’s a good example of the architecture and lifestyle of the 19th century.
